Small Moments, Great Memories In the face of unavoidable loss and pain, as humans, we often find ourselves being crushed and in a dark place. Small moments turned into great memories; this series of collages is a dedication to 2020, capturing a tumultuous year fraught with loss of loved ones and many political matters. I began creating this series to overcome my own traumas and pain after having lost family members and a friend. There are 12 collages, 1 for each month created by photographs that I had taken during those months. The individual collages are an amalgamation of what that month meant and felt like to me.Going through and creating these collages helped me appreciate and be thankful for every moment I was able to spend with the people that were in my life. Even in the darkest and loneliest of times, what keeps me going is this vibrancy of life, regardless of the season, the time, who I’m with or where. Working through the emotions I carried for each month, including the hardest of months, I was able to accept and find that even the smallest of moments could make great memories. I hope that viewers can find healing, courage and hope through my stories. Artist bio Heavily influenced during my high school years by attending Langley Fine Arts School, I originally practiced fine art creating multi-media pieces. I was able to explore many forms of art by attending a fine art focused high school and particularly found myself in love with the art of film photography and being in the dark room. Being able to tell and capture countless events, I relived each moment during the developing process of each photograph. It made me rethink those memories whether they were good or bad and I found the process very therapeutic and magical. By the time I was in university, photography had become almost completely digital, and I wasn’t quite sure if I enjoyed it as much as before. While attending Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU), I switched from being a fine art major to a graphic design major with a photography minor. Through graphic design, I was able to explore creatively and revise infinitely because of the digital platform. I could work on a piece over and over again without limitations and I had fun making digital art. I began my career as a graphic designer, and I often found myself yearning to get back into fine art. Constantly contemplating what defined and separated graphic design from being fine art. I thought about this because I saw graphic design to be just as much a work of art as any traditional medium of art. I wanted to create artwork utilizing my experiences whether it was from being a student, a business professional or as a creative and thus, I began to create digital collages composed of my own photographs. I hope that people viewing my artwork finds it therapeutic and healing as the process of creating and sharing has been for me. Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU)
